The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) is the lead U.S. federal agency for research on mental and behavioral disorders. Its website has news about recent research; a list of NIMH clinical trials recruiting participants; and a list of NIMH publications. See their schizophrenia page.
The National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD, The Mental Health Research Association) is a donor-supported organization devoted exclusively to funding scientific research worldwide in brain and behavior disorders. Its website describes NARSAD-funded research and has a list of research studies needing participants. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) is a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The website of its Mental Health Information Center has a mental health services locator for the U.S., as well as other resources and information.
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families, and friends of people with severe mental illnesses. Its website is full of information and resources, including online discussion groups, and can be personalized (myNAMI), as well as translated into Spanish. NAMI also has state and local chapters throughout the U.S., which can be located through the national website.
Schizophrenia.com is a non-profit web community providing information, support, and education related to schizophrenia. Founded and run by family members and people with schizophrenia, it has a great deal of information, many links, a schizophrenia Newsblog, discussion groups (for the U.S. and internationally), and chat rooms.
World Fellowship for Schizophrenia and Allied Disorders (WFSAD) is a global organization whose members include major mental health organizations from many countries. Available in French and Spanish as well as in English, the website has personal stories; a list of international resources; a book list; and a description of their meetings and activities throughout the world.
